▪️ The exhibition will be open from 18 I - 21 II 2025. - Ślężański Museum, 18 St. James Street, Sobótka
???? The inspiration for the new temporary exhibition comes from the family history of a resident of Sobótka Municipality, relating to the family jewelry she owned from the period of the January Uprising. The pretzels originally belonged to her great-great-grandmother, and were created to commemorate the death of her husband, an insurgent.
???? At the exhibition we will see examples of original women's mourning jewelry, which was created even before the January Uprising. We will learn about its rich symbolism, which has survived in Polish history, and whose manifestations can also be found in the later national crises of the 20th century up to the Solidarity period.
???? The exhibition will also feature, among other things, reproductions of photographs of women in mourning attire with the aforementioned jewelry, from the collection of the Ossolineum in Wroclaw, as well as contextual artifacts from the era of the national uprising or their replicas. The exhibition also presents selected objects related to the insurgent memory of later years.
???? All collectors lending collections to the exhibition asked to remain anonymous.
⚔️ An event honoring the anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising and providing a lively context for the first day of the exhibition will be a historical re-enactment of the uprising episodes performed by the Historical Reconstruction Group Duchy of Warsaw with the participation of the youth of PZS No. 3 in Sobótka.
