Originally, at the site of the present church there a chapel built in the 16th century on the ruins of a castle. In the years 1698-1702, founded by Abbot Jan Sievert, a brick one-nave chapel with open arcaded porches on both sides was erected. In 1822, a viewing gallery was added to it. In June of 1834, it was destroyed in fire. Reconstruction was made in 1851, thanks to the efforts of forester von Pannewitz and the support of Cardinal Diepenbrock and Baron von Schleinitz. It was then that the neo-Romanesque church with an orderly interior, wooden ceilings and a square tower appeared. Remaining elements of the old walls were used in the reconstruction. The church was designed by Antoni Gericke. At the beginning of the 20th century, the iron viewing gallary was added, and in 1929, the concrete buttresses. In 1949, as a result of a fire, the north wall was destroyed and renovated a few years later. During the 1960s, the church was fully renovated and rededicated.
